About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of HR to lead and oversee the Human Resources function, bridging the gap between operational and strategic HR. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Head of HR will manage the HR Manager and provide leadership to the wider HR team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality HR services that align with the  strategic and operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the HR function, ensuring the delivery of efficient, high-quality services
  • Act as the key interface between strategic and operational HR, advising on and influencing decision-making.
  • Provide leadership and development opportunities for the HR team.
  • Oversee the implementation of key strategic initiatives, including:
    • Major restructuring of the two schools.
    • Implementing and embedding Trade Union recognition.
    • Reviewing and optimizing staff grading structures.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven HR leadership experience, ideally within complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to implement and manage significant organizational changes.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment law, and working with Trade Unions.
  • Exceptional leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capability to influence at all levels.

Operational Oversight
•Provide leadership and direction to the HR team, ensuring their development, engagement, and performance.
•Oversee the effective and efficient delivery of operational of HR services, including recruitment, employee relations, and compliance.
•Ensure adherence to legal and policy frameworks, and the maintaining of HR systems and data integrity.
•Serve as the designated lead signatory for Disclosure Scotland, ensuring all PVG checks are conducted in line with legal requirements and best practice.
Employee and Trade Union Relations
•Lead on the implementation and embedding of the Voluntary Recognition and Partnership Agreement, ensuring effective collaboration and constructive relationships with trade unions and internal representatives.
•Co-ordinate the Joint Consultative

Policy Development and Implementation
•Own the development, monitoring, and review of HR policies and procedures to ensure they are effective and compliant with legal requirements.
•Oversee the development and delivery of training sessions to ensure staff understand and effectively implement HR policies and procedures.
•Lead and contribute to continuous improvement of HR systems, processes and practices.

Essential
•Significant experience in a senior HR leadership role.
•Strong knowledge of UK employment law and best HR practices.
•CIPD Level 7 qualification (or equivalent).
•Proven ability to manage, develop, and lead teams effectively.
•Proven track record in strategic HR planning and operational delivery.
•Previous involvement in trade union consultation and negotiation.
•Significant experience of restructuring.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
•Ability to manage complex projects and deliver results.
