A survey from Hays shows that more than half of both employers (57%) and workers (56%) in Scotland believe that artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace will bring positive impacts and should be embraced, rather than feared.

The survey received around 8,800 responses from professionals and employers across the UK, including almost 450 in Scotland.

Keith Mason, Hays Scotland director, explained that currently, only 34% of employers say they’re investing in staff training to up-skill in AI tools and technologies. Out of these, just over a quarter are using tools such as ChatGPT.

“The main benefits to an organisation in using AI are cost savings, process efficiencies and improved productivity, but it’s really important that AI is integrated in a balanced way, where job transformation is the main objective – not the replacement of human workers.”

The research also showed that the majority of employers (65%) intend to allow staff to use AI tools but will monitor usage. Just 5% of employers say they have already banned the use of AI tools and 12% intend to ban tools like ChatGPT.

ChatGPT is an advanced conversational Artificial Intelligence (AI) model developed by OpenAI. This tool is designed to generate human-like text responses in natural language conversations. It has been trained on a vast amount of diverse text data from the internet and can understand and generate coherent and contextually relevant responses.

It can be used for a wide range of applications, including:

•             Customer Support

•             Virtual Assistants

•             Content Generation

•             Language Translation

How can we use chat GPT for business in 2023?

In 2023, we can’t be afraid of this tool that can automate processes, optimize time and focus on strategic initiatives. Of course, it needs the personalized support of a real human mind to make sure the results are the best they can be. It is important to note that while ChatGPT can generate impressive responses, but it has its limitations. It may sometimes provide incorrect or nonsensical answers, exhibit biases present in the training data, or generate responses that lack context or common sense. Therefore, it’s crucial to carefully review and validate its outputs, especially in critical or sensitive applications.
