During the last London Tech Week, current Prime Minister Rishi Sunak put the attention on the correlation between the need for continuous innovation and economic success. He confirmed the government’s commitment to invest £900 million in computer technology and £2.5 billion in quantum in the coming years – with a vision of becoming the world’s leading quantum-enabled economy by 2033.

Balancing technology with people is crucial in today's world, as technological advancements continue to shape the way we live and work. While technology can bring numerous benefits, it is essential to find a harmonious balance that considers the needs and well-being of individuals.

Tobi Tajo, Manager SAP Logistic, spoke about four key takeaways that he learned from the London Tech Week on KPMG website (see full article here).

  1. Keeping human values at the heart of tech transformation

By combining the power of AI with a strong commitment to ethical principles and human-centered design, organizations can unlock the true potential of emerging technologies while ensuring they align with the values and expectations of society. This approach not only safeguards against potential risks but also paves the way for sustainable, responsible, and value-driven AI implementations.

  1. Generative AI – supporting not replacing people

In developing generative AI, governing principles must include privacy & security, inclusiveness, accountability, transparency, fairness, and reliability. Regarding the 'Co-pilot' concept in AI, it aligns well with the idea of AI supporting and guiding users to enhance productivity. Tools like MS Word's 'Co-pilot' can provide valuable prompts, suggestions, and insights to help users work more efficiently and effectively across various tasks.

  1. Achieving growth & innovation at speed

There is often a tension between investing in growth on the one hand and optimizing operational efficiency on the other. By carefully balancing innovation, operational efficiency, and stakeholder engagement, organizations can achieve growth through a technological mindset. This approach ensures that technology remains aligned with business objectives and serves as an enabler for sustainable growth and success.

  1. Avoiding burnout: looking after your mind and body

The panel emphasized that technology has a growing role to play in helping us stay healthy so we can continue to innovate and thrive. Technology indeed has a significant role to play in helping individuals take care of their health, improve productivity, and maintain a work-life balance. By incorporating technology into workplace wellness initiatives, organizations can promote a healthier, more balanced, and productive workforce. A strong focus on employee well-being fosters a positive work environment and enables individuals to thrive, ultimately contributing to the organization's overall success and innovation.
